Chapter 2: Passing the Time

Eighteen days is a long period of time to fill. The first few days should pass without incident like your first days anywhere, but soon either you or your Time Lord partner will become antsy with wanderlust.

Spend quality time with your partner. Go out, see the local colour. Find activities to keep yourselves occupied. The busier you keep yourselves, the faster the days will seem to pass.

It was a crackling sound that finally woke Rose from her sleep. Something was exploding a little ways away. She sat up suddenly and stared around the room. It was dark and she had no idea where she was and how she got there. Heart pounding in her chest, she opened her mouth to call for the Doctor when his familiar shadow appeared in the doorway.

“Feeling better?” he asked.

Rose blinked at him, the events of the past two days flitting through her mind. They’d escaped Gilfatu, had amazing ‘so thankful you’re alive’ sex, and were at a resort due to forgetting contraception. Even after a decent amount of sleep, it was a little overwhelming.

In a quiet voice, she answered, “Yeah, I think so.”

As her mind cleared a bit more, her muscles decided it was time to wake up and air their grievances at the treatment they had received the day before. She was definitely more than a little sore. Flopping back onto the pillow, she let out a loud groan.

“Maybe not,” she corrected.

The Doctor chuckled at that and moved closer toward the bed. She couldn’t see him while she was staring at the ceiling, but she could feel his presence approach her. When the mattress dipped under his weight, she noticed the crackling explosions again.

“What’s that sound?” she asked.

His hand touched her calf through the sheet, giving it a light pat as he answered, “Fireworks.”

“Oh?”

Rose sat up and slipped out of bed so she could get to the window, but the Doctor ushered her out the doors to the terrace before she could get there, murmuring something about a better view. Which he was definitely right about that: they had a view of the lagoon, and the bursting lights in the sky.

She leaned against the railing and watched the exploding stars burst into multi-coloured waterfalls of sparkling embers. The Doctor stood beside her with his palm gently resting against her waist.

“I drew you a bath,” his whispered in her ear, his breath against her skin sending goose bumps up her spine.

A bath sounded wonderful. Turning into his arms, she smiled up at him. “Did you?”

“Almost as warm as you like it,” he answered with a grin.

His eyes glinted in the glow of he fireworks. A hand came up to cup her cheek just before his mouth descended upon hers. Rose felt herself melting into him as his tongue slipped between her lips, teasing her into a response. His hand at her lower back held her steady when her knees threatened to give way.

Panting for breath when he finally pulled back, Rose giggled. “Isn’t that what got us here in the first place?”

The Doctor chuckled and shook his head. Bending forward he growled in her ear when he reminded, “There wasn’t much kissing involved.”

He moved in to kiss her again, but Rose took a step back and put a hand against his chest to keep him from closing the distance. As much as she liked the idea of where this was going, she was more partial to the first offer he’d made her.

“You said something about a bath?”

*.*.*.*

From the Doctor’s behavior on the terrace, Rose had been expecting him to join her in the bath. Unlike hot showers, he didn’t mind hot baths. More than once, he’d taken her to hot springs on various planets. But rather than shed his own clothing to slip into the water with her, the Doctor sat down on the edge of the tub where he merely kept her company for a few minutes until there was a knock on the suite door and he excused himself.

Rose closed her eyes and sank back in the water. It was heavenly on her sore muscles. When she finally climbed out of the bath and wrapped herself in the fluffy hotel dressing gown, the Doctor was sitting at the dinning table in the living area of their suite.

“You must be hungry,” he said with a smile when she appeared in the doorway.

Not needing to be asked twice, Rose plopped down in a chair and snatched up her cutlery before attacking her meal of roasted chicken and vegetables. Not only did it smell wonderful, it tasted fantastic. Rose complemented the Doctor on his choice through a mouthful as she devoured her food. Slowing down, she paused to take a sip from the glass in front of her and glanced across the table at the Doctor.

“So what are we going to do tomorrow?” she asked.

The corner of his mouth turned up and he teased, “The same thing we do whenever we go anywhere.”

“Use the wrong verbs, get charged double, and kiss complete strangers?” Rose teased back. If he wanted to play that game, she was more than willing.

“Maybe not strangers,” he said with a flirtatious grin.

“Oh?” she inquired, cutting another piece of chicken and putting it her mouth. She considered the Doctor thoughtfully before asking, “Who should I kiss, then?”

The Doctor’s expression darkened in a way that sent a rush of heat straight to her belly. That was more than enough of an answer for her. Swallowing another forkful, Rose set her fork down and smiled at the Doctor. Feeling more than a bit mischievous, she slowly pushed her chair back, untied sash of her dressing gown and then bolted from the room the moment it fell off her shoulders.

As Rose ran into the bedroom, she heard the Doctor set his cup down and come after her. Giggling, she pretended to hide while she waited for him.

*.*.*.*

Downing the last dregs of his herbal tea, the Doctor brought his cup back to the table with a heavy thump before he stared at the door Rose had disappeared behind. He knew it was a bad idea. He may have had two doses since their incident, but they wouldn’t have an effect for another few hours.

Then again, they’d already tipped the scales on the TARDIS; which was why they were there in the first place.

“Oh, well,” he muttered and pushed his chair away from the table.

The light was off in the bedroom, and with the curtains closed it was bit difficult for even him to see. He knew Rose was definitely in there by the lingering scent of her soap. There was a rustle of movement to his left. Turning, he moved toward the sound only to be surprised by something landing on his back and wrapping its legs and arms around him.

“You’ve been teasing me all night,” Rose growled in his ear.

The sweet, hot scent of her arousal mocked his restraint, as did her teeth nipping at his neck. Every moment that passed made him want her even more. There was no longer any point in denying himself. They both knew he was going to give in before the night was over.

“I’m not the one doing the teasing now,” he informed her before leaning back and untangling her arms from around his shoulders.

As soon as she landed on the ground, Rose began tugging at his clothes. “But you are definitely the one wearing too many layers.”

He pulled his jumper over his head while Rose dropped down to untie his boots. Her fingers yanked the laces loose before she stood back up to tackle his belt. His jeans were around his ankles in seconds and kicked to the side soon after that. Rose grabbed for the tie that held his shorts, but he waved her hands away.

“Not right now,” he said, guiding her back toward the bed.

Rose opened her mouth to insist on his total nakedness, but he shushed her with a finger.

“Tonight will only be my mouth and my hands,” he purred.

Hopefully they could both be satisfied with that. Tomorrow would be safe to continue. They didn’t need to assure the chances of Rose conceiving to be as high as possible, if they could help it.

“I suppose that will have to do,” she said, looping her arms around his neck and bringing him down into a kiss.

Her tongue bravely explored his mouth as if it was hers and she was simply restaking her claim on it. She skillfully urged his body to respond in ways that only she knew how. He moaned against her lips as he returned the kiss in sudden desperate need. One of her hands crept up his side and tugged him closer as it found a resting place on his back, while the other slipped down over his hip to hold tightly to his backside as she ground against him.

The soft cotton of his pants was almost too rough against his sensitive skin as she rubbed against him, but he wouldn’t trade the feeling for anything else in the world.

How badly he wanted to be inside her, but he knew he shouldn’t. Not again. There was still a chance nothing would come of their earlier mistake. At least that was the mantra he repeated to himself constantly.

Trailing heated kisses over Rose’s chin and down her neck, the Doctor paused to run his tongue up the skin between her breasts. She tasted of soap, progesterone, and Rose. Her heart thundered beneath her ribcage: he could feel the vibrations as he trailed his tongue against her supple skin.

A smooth shift to the right left him circling a sandy-pink peak that made Rose moan and arch her back. His hand slipped up her belly until it cupped the matching mound. He pinched the nub between his thumb and forefinger as his teeth nipped lightly at its mate. Rose wiggled beneath him, her hips bucking up to meet his.

“Keep doing that,” she murmured.

Grinning wickedly against her skin, he stopped.

“Doctor,” Rose pleaded.

“Hush,” he instructed, scooting down the bed.

He trailed feather light kisses down her belly while a hand slipped between her legs. If she thought that his avoidance of her earlier was teasing, he could do much worse. She could be begging for mercy before he would let her find her release, but he didn’t feel that devious tonight.

Flicking the pad of his thumb across the little bundle of nerves, he smiled against Rose’s belly as her hips jerked in response. Slipping two fingers inside her, he continued to rub the tight circles that sent shockwaves of pleasure through her body.

“O—Oh,” Rose gasped, as her body gave an involuntary shudder.

She was already close; he could feel it as he pumped his fingers in and out of her. Her muscles tightened around him as he pressed more kisses to her belly, his other hand reaching up to cup one of her forgotten breasts. Just a little tweak of a nipple and brush of a tongue combined with the steady rhythm of the hand between her legs had Rose trembling and quaking.

He was half tempted to replace his circling thumb with his tongue, but decided that would send him down a spiraling path he shouldn’t venture just yet. It was difficult enough for him to keep his desire in check while smelling her reactions to his ministrations. Tasting her would be the end of him.

Rose was nearly recovered when he crawled back up the bed and laid down beside her. She rolled toward him and smiled.

“Your turn,” she said, lazily reaching out to untie his shorts

The Doctor shrugged her hands away. “Not tonight.”

“Coward,” she taunted, with an ornery grin. “You just don’t want to play Russian roulette again.”

He laughed and hugged her tightly to his chest. She had a point. It would only take one cell of his to meet hers. There was every chance they could be perfectly in the clear, but there was as much of a chance one night of passion could be the end of their travels through the universe.

“Four times was enough,” he whispered to her hair. “We still don’t know the outcome of those rounds yet.”

“Yeah,” she said quietly, snuggling in closer to him as she settled down to sleep again. “Have to wait a few more weeks yet.”

*.*.*.*

It was daylight when the phone rang. It wasn’t Rose’s mobile. She’d left it in one of the pockets of the Doctor’s jacket which was flung over a chair in the other room. No, this phone was the piercing whine of a hotel phone, right beside the bed. Rose fumbled for it and put it to her ear before mumbling, “Hello.”

“Good morning,” Jack announced brightly.

“What time is it?” Rose asked, her brain unable to comprehend the numbers on the bedside alarm clock.

“Time for you to get out of bed and join the rest of the world,” Jack told her before adding, “That, and the Doctor and I thought you might want to join us for breakfast.”

Turning her head, Rose was surprised to see the Doctor’s side of the bed empty. He rarely stayed the entire night, but she’d thought he might stay around a while after the events of the previous day. Then again, he hadn’t exactly stuck around the last time, either.

“Okay,” Rose agreed. “I’m getting up.”

She put the phone back and slipped out of bed. Her dressing gown was crumpled on the floor and her dress was likely still in a heap in the bathroom. She considered pulling on the creased dress, but she hoped the Doctor had gone back for the suitcase she’d left in the console room.

As if by magic, Rose turned to see the little pink case waiting for her in the bedroom corner. Silently thanking the Doctor, she crossed the room and pounced on her bag.

*.*.*.*

After breakfast the Doctor disappeared to the TARDIS to do some repairs, leaving Jack and Rose on their own for the day. Taking an entertaining series of rides on the monorail and few buses, they eventually ended up at Disney’s Hollywood Studios staring up at the Tower of Terror.

“You shouldn’t,” Jack told Rose, jokingly patting her belly.

“I’m not pregnant,” she argued. “At least not yet.”

Jack looked down to see Rose grinning up at him, mischief twinkling in her eyes. He couldn’t help but laugh. She did have a point, even if they both knew the Doctor wouldn’t see it that way. He obviously wasn’t one to take chances when it came to Rose possibly being pregnant.

With a smirk, Jack grabbed her hand and laughed, “I won’t tell him, if you won’t.”

“Agreed,” Rose stated, before breaking into a run for the queue.

As they waited, Jack kept pointing to the signs warning pregnant women away, each comment earning him a smack. He was perfectly aware there wasn’t exactly a danger yet, but he was having fun tormenting Rose.

“I wouldn’t stay in a hotel with cobwebs like that,” he laughed, finally giving up his taunting for the time being.

Rose laughed and leaned into him while she told him about a hotel she and the Doctor had stayed in on some planet at the edge of a galaxy he wasn’t familiar with. It had had cobwebs that nearly covered the ceiling to the point you couldn’t tell what colour the paint was.

“Always knows how to treat a girl, doesn’t he?” she giggled sarcastically.

“From what I hear, you two are staying in a very nice suite,” he commented as they moved forward. “Seems he’s treating you pretty well, if you ask me.”

“Yeah,” Rose admitted shyly. “We even have a phonograph.”

“Oh?” he prodded.

Rose opened her mouth to respond, but she spotted a sign before she did. Pointing to it she warned that there was “no turning back.”

The two of them giggled all the way to their seats, poked fun at the introduction, and giggled and screamed intermittently throughout the ride before they laughed on the way out. There was an incident of someone assuming they were a couple that had them practically rolling.

“People always assumed the Doctor and me were a couple for ages,” Rose smiled as they walked toward the giant sorcerer’s hat. “I mean, Mum thought we were shagging before I’d even really given that a thought.”

“Now you just proved her right,” Jack taunted.

“Oh, I know,” Rose exclaimed, swinging their joined hands. “If me and the Doctor have a baby, there is no more pretending we’re not.”

They’d barely made it to the pin station under the sorcerer’s hat and begun plotting to spend a ludicrous amount of money on trading pins just because they could when Rose’s mobile rang. She pulled it out of her pocket and laughed when she looked at the screen.

“Your mum?” Jack asked.

She shook her head and mouthed that it was the Doctor when she took the call and put it to her ear.

“Lonely?” she asked in a sing-song voice. That bright smile reserved for the Doctor shone across her face. As the Doctor was speaking to her, Rose beamed brighter and her tongue pressed against her teeth, threatening to come out of her mouth.

“Tonight?” she asked. “But I don’t have anything to wear.” She chewed on her lip while she listened to his response and then exclaimed, “Really? Oh, I can’t wait to see it.”

What did he get? Jack mouthed, wanting to know what was going on.

Rose motioned to her body as she replied, a dress, before saying, “Yeah, we’ll catch the bus back soon.” Bidding the Doctor goodbye, she ended the call and tucked the phone back into her pocket.

“A dress?” Jack asked. He was definitely very interested in what his friends had planned.

“Shut up,” Rose told him, blushing as she pretended to be interested in pin shopping again.

Jack was not even close to shutting up. Putting on his most enticing grin, he pushed for details. “You and the Doctor have a date tonight?”

“Maybe,” she answered.

“Oh,” he teased. “Someone planning to get lucky tonight?”

Rose bit her lip to keep back a laugh before saying, “You’d have to ask him.”

Smirking, he prodded her in the side to encourage more embarrassed laughter. The two of them were just so cute and they didn’t even know it.

Rose did end up with more trading pins than she probably needed as well as a plush Jedi Mickey Mouse that she decided she had to have. They agreed to come back and explore the rest of the park together another day when Rose said they ought to head back. Jack of course didn’t leave off about her date. He made her swear to give him details the next day.

Rose is much braver than I--to get me on the Tower of Terror would require rope, duct tape, and unconsciousness! LOL...and you have them collecting the pins??? The Doctor may have to sonic a few cash points if they do too much of that! Where are they off to next? Epcot? Animal Kingdom??? (And I still think you should do a manip of them in mouse ears, or standing in front of the castle!)
