Title: Getting Out 4/5
Characters: TenII, Rose, Ten
Pairing: Ten/Rose
Rating: All
Beta: None, though I likely need one.
Warnings: Spoilers for The End of Time, and TenII is a Ten/Rose ‘shipper.
Disclaimer: Not mine. I am just borrowing the characters, and trying to play nicely.
Summary: With the help of her new friend, Rose makes it back to her own world, to save the Doctor from himself, and perhaps even save the universe while they’re at it.
Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Part Four
Rose had only held the Doctor for a few short minutes when he abruptly leapt to his feet, shaking her hands off his arm.
“No,” he exclaimed. “You shouldn’t be here.”
He held up his hands protectively as she moved toward him. Every step she took toward him, he took a larger one backward toward the console.
“I need to go,” he said, once he reached the controls.
Rather than argue with him, Rose merely rolled her eyes. She’d expected this sort of reaction from him. The other one had explained how high and mighty this Doctor would become. But that wasn’t why she expected him to not accept this alternative to his arrangement.
This way was too simple, and he still had a way out.
The Doctor fumbled over the controls. They were scattered and foreign to him. What had the other him been thinking when he’d designed this? Which was the vortex manipulator and what controlled the vector tracker and how on earth did you activated the hyper-dimensional neutralizer?
Warily he reached out for a nearby lever, hoping it might help, but Rose had pushed him out of the way before he even got a firm grasp on it.
She deftly flipped switched and turned knobs. The readings on the screen seemed to change just as they should and the TARDIS hummed to life. Ignoring the Doctor’s raised eyebrows, she directed him to change the settings of two dials near where he was standing then warned him to hold on.
“I’m going to die,” he shouted over the din as they plummeted and rattled through the vortex.
“Says who?”
“It was a prophecy.”
“Not all prophecies come true,” Rose argued as she grabbed hold of a lever and shoved it upward against the force of gravity. “I think I’m living proof of that.”
As soon as the lever locked in place, the entire console room shifted with a force great enough to wrench the Doctor loose from his hand hold, and throw him against the nearest wall.
“That was different.”
“Shut up,” Rose groused as she grabbed hold of his arm and hoisted him back to his feet. “Let’s switch you back, so you can go off and save the world on your own.”
This trade back had been worked into the plan, which was why there was a set of clothes resting on the railing. Rose shoved the spare tie and shirt into his hands and told him to change.
*.*.*.*.*
The two of them crawled out of the door of a small storage cupboard.
Rose was on her feet staring at her watch by the time the Doctor had recovered from the surprise of a working chameleon circuit. He moved toward her to ask what she was doing when she quickly turned right and jogged down the nearest corridor.
Without a word he ran after her.
For a short moment he wondered if he was like this to companions. Vague and mysterious when it came to following signals he knew but hadn’t explained to them.
It was a bit annoying.
They turned a few tight corners, before Rose came to a sudden halt and threw an arm out to keep him from going any farther.
Just on the other side of the wall he heard the hum of machinery, Alien machinery, from the sound of it. And he also heard his own voice go through a round of questioning about what the Master was up to.
A little smile tugged at Rose’s mouth when he called the Master Skeletor.
As soon as the explanation was finished, the Doctor took off like a shot back down the corridor, trying to gage exactly how to get up to the Master to stop what he knew he must be planning.
Rose on the other hand held firm where she was and caught the other Doctor as he came careening out of the room on the same mission.
“That was fast,” he muttered as he linked arms with Rose and ran around the nearest corner and back to the TARDIS.
“He didn’t like you stealing his thunder.”
“Typical,” he laughed as they crawled back inside the little metal door.
Bounding toward the controls, Rose set the coordinates they had discussed back in Pete’s world, before turning her head to ask him, “Are you sure this is going to work?”
“99.6 percent,” he said as he threw her that ‘Oh, I know I am so clever’ smile and waved at her with his right hand. The tips of his fingers had begun to glow with that eerie golden light Rose remembered all too well.
To be continued and finished in part five….
Note: Obviously, like many I wished for a pony at new years. Since Uncle Rusty didn’t deliver, I thought I would make my own. The next part will be longer, and might have a bit of a rating jump.
I had fun writing this, but without a beta, I am sure it is in no way perfect. Then again I felt it needed sharing sooner, rather than later.
