Title: A Tight Fit
Pairing: Ten/Rose
Rating: All Ages

Disclaimer:Never has been and never will be mine.

Summary: A simple game of sardines.

It had seemed like the perfect hiding place at first. If she squeezed herself far enough into the corner, she was almost invisible from the doorway. The only trouble was that squeezing into said corner meant she we become well acquainted with Sarah Jane’s Christmas tree. The plastic needles made her skin itch.

Why hadn’t she thought to wear a jacket or at least a long sleeved shirt? Perhaps because it was warm outside, almost hot and she hadn’t planned on spending an afternoon playing a game of Sardines.

Though really, with the numbers of doors and dark corners, the house was one perfect place to play.

Rose sighed and tried to wriggle around enough to find a more comfortable position. She must have been squatting in that corner for nearly fifteen minutes. The door had opened once, but no one had noticed her yet. Perhaps they might give up, and then she would be declared the hiding champion.

The cupboard door creaked a bit as it opened. After the long silence the sound was such a surprise, Rose couldn’t stop her sudden intake of breath.

The Doctor laughed quietly as he pulled the door closed behind him. “I was just trying to give someone else a chance.”

“Oh, don’t even. You cheat and you know it.” No matter what, he always seemed to find her first when they played this game. She hadn’t figured out how he did it yet, but she hoped it was something she could learn. One never knew when they needed to master their seeking skills.

“Do not.”

“Do so.”

“Time Lord. Better ears.” He scooted into Rose’s little space between the boxes and the wall. He crouched low so he was at eye level and lowered his voice as he whispered “I can hear your heart beating.”

He slid in closer and traced a feather light line up her arm. Her skin tingled from his cooler than human touch and she suddenly found herself having a bit of difficulty catching her breath as he combed his fingers through a few loose strands of her hair.

“And I can smell your shampoo.”

The words tickled her skin as he inched forward to breathe them in her ear. He opened his mouth to continue with the same speech he had given her at least a dozen times or more. If Rose really wanted to she could repeat it verbatim, but she loved to hear him go on about how fantastic he thought she smelled. He picked this shampoo, so he had better like it, she’d teased him once.

Rose was torn between grabbing hold of his lapels and kissing him like her life depended upon it, or just playfully shoving him away. She was just beginning to lean a little more toward the kissing, and had gone so far as to snake her hands up the front of his jacket when the door creaked open, and Luke slipped into the tight space.

“Hi,” he whispered absently, completely oblivious to the drama that was cramped beside the Christmas tree.

“Oh who cares,” Rose declared as she grabbed hold of the Doctor’s face and gave him the snog of his life.

I think she made the right choice there (it’s certainly the one I’d have made: to kiss the Doctor or not to kiss, what sort of choice is that? ;D)
